Classical Newborn Crochet Hat Pattern

My go to for everything is here. She’s amazing and her patterns are so easy to follow. I basically go to her website every time to use this standard pattern and then make a bunch of different variations. With buttons, without buttons, with ear flaps, without flaps etc.

Made a bear using these ears from this pattern. I searched long and hard for the perfect round ears. Some were always too big or too small. I fell in love with these simple ears.

R1 – Start with a magic circle, ch 1. Work 8 hdc stitches, do not join, work in the round. (8)

R2 – 2 hdc in each st (16)
R3 – 1 hdc in the next 14 stitches. Ch 1 turn (14)
R4 – (1 hdc in each of the next 5 stitches) hdc decrease twice (1 hdc in the next 5 stitches)
Tie off, leave a long enough tail to sew it into the hat.
There is no right or wrong side on the ears, just pick what you think looks best for the outside of the ear.
Think about the placement when you attach the ears; higher up and closer will make it more mouse-like, while putting them further down resembles a monkey. Find a placement you’re comfortable with to get your desired look.
Weave in all ends.
