Kimono Baby Crochet Shoes

THE PATTERN

I. For the sole I just crocheted the normal sole:
Basic Baby Shoe Sole (Original Pattern) Materials Needed:

  • Size F (3.750mm) crochet hook (Newborn)
  • Size G (4.00mm) crochet hook (0-3 months)
  • Size G (4.25mm) crochet hook (3-6 months)
  • Worsted weight yarn in any color

Rnd 1: Ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 7, hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 5 hdc in end ch. Working down opposite side of starting ch, 2 hdc in next, hdc in next, sc in next 7, 2 sc in next.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in first sc of last rnd, sc in next 10 sts, (2 sc in next, sc in next) 3 times, sc in next 9, 2 sc in next, sc in next.
Rnd 3: 2 sc in next, sc in next 11, (2 sc in next, sc in next) twice, (sc in next, 2 sc in next) twice, sc in next 11, 2 sc in next, sc in next, sl st in first sc of rnd, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 4: Working in Back Loops only for this rnd, 1 sc in each st around, sl st in first sc.  Fasten off if working another color for the instepIf you are working these all in the same color, move to the next step.

II. For the side of the shoe depending on the size of the shoe/hook. I used a 3.75
35-38 chain, turn
35-38 sc x 5
You’ll get a long rectangular shape and don’t tie off …continue to next part….
III. I used the Embroidery Chain Stitch for one side of the rectangle, don’t tie off attach it directly to the top of the sole of the shoe (where the toes should be) then attach the (side/rectangle) together with the sole of the shoe and then tie off. (It took me awhile to figure this part out…sometimes it’ll overlap…sometimes it won’t. When I crochet most of the time I “wing” it so much I don’t really know exactly how I do certain parts…but this part was the hardest. If you have issues let me know and I’ll try to explain it. I also made an adult version of this shoe as well here. No exact pattern or measurement for it though.
IV. For the flowers/leaves you can do any type of combination there are lots of different types of flowers on the internet. I don’t remember all the patterns/blogs/websites that I used.
Good luck! I hope you like it! If you have any questions or concerns please let me know! Thanks!

THE STORY

on my super crazy BABY PHASE….lol yeah…so one of my friends JUST HAD to get pregnant…lol just kidding! I’m REALLY happy for her and her family!

Normally…NORMALLY when my friends have babies, I just get them whatever’s on their registry and run in the OPPOSITE direction…yeah I was scared and terrified AND I had no clue how to play those silly baby/baby shower games…BUT for some reason I decided to actually buckle down and attend my very first BABY SHOWER….I don’t know why but I volunteered to help out and I really didn’t imagine how much work I had to actually put into it. I’m the type of person if I see a need I try to fulfill it. I’m just like that don’t ask why…but anywho…

So I volunteered to handle all the baby shower favors. At first I was going to make these cute little PAPER baby shoes but I was hesitant because 1. they were hard to make 2. people were just going to throw them away anyways. I wanted it to be memorable for my friend and for her friends. So since I loved crocheting I decided hey why not make some REAL baby shoes. There are 50 of them below filled with candy and all with flower embellishments. Yeah no clue how long it took me…just a LONG time…all these baby shoes were taking over my living room lol. But in the end all that mattered was all her friends and family loved it. Each one got to take ONE home, some were trying to take pairs home and dumping out all the candy on the table! It was great! Everyone loved them and will remember her! Mission Accomplished and yup she loved them too!

This story also makes me a bit sad too…only because my husband and I have been moving around our entire lives. We have never settled down in one spot to call home long enough. So if I were even to have a shower I would have no one to plan it…no one to help me with it and really no shower. I guess there are pros and cons to every lifestyle…just kind of sad to realize that although I was very happy moving around with my husband…and getting a chance to live in all these wonderful places I never had the chance to really get to know the women around me and grow with them. Oh well that’s life I suppose.
